Thrown "STACK SHOE" At "BIG LICK" Tennessee Walking Horse Championship Class - June 27, 2020 - The four horses had just finished the second way of the ring "Running Walk" gait to the strains of "DIXIE" and "Rebel Yells", when the announcer then asked the horses to perform the canter gait.

Normally, the canter is an easy slow lope gait, but in the "Big Lick" competition its one of the most dangerous parts of the show. Often horses are crippled when the nearly EIGHT POUND STACK shoes which are attached to the front foot with a metal band are "snatched off" while trying to canter, or worse, the front hoof is broken off from a concussion of the back foot hitting the front foot while doing the canter gait.

One of the horses in this class, while laboring to canter with the nearly EIGHT POUND  STACK shoes on its front feet with CHAINS hitting the sensitive pastern areas, attempted to canter starting at Min.:58 seconds, and 16 seconds later at Min. 1:14 (hear the crowd GROAN), its rear foot apparently struck the STACK on the left front foot and snatched it off eliciting the "GROAN" from the crowd, and stopping the horse show.

Fortunately, the horse did not suffer grievous damage which is often the case when this happens.

In this video (seen over 354,000 times) made at the Asheville (NC) "Big Lick: Horse Show on Oct. 4, 2019, you can hear the back feet hitting the front stack shoes when the horse attempts to canter.

The canter gait (without) the nearly EIGHT POUND STACK SHOES and CHAINS is a natural slow lope gait all equines can perform effortlessly.

The horse with the thrown Stack shoe limped to the lineup and received the 4th place ribbon in the class.  ###############
