Greedy drug company, Turing pharmaceuticals, gouging patients

Daraprim is a generic drug that has been produced for a very long time and sold at a price of $13.50/ tablet and is used for treatment of life threatening infections in immunocompromised patients including people with AIDS, organ transplant patients and cancer patients on chemotherapy. This medication is also given to babies who are born to pregnant patients with Toxoplamosis.

The drug was acquired in August by Turing Pharmaceuticals, a start up run by Martin Shkreli who was a hedge fund manager, and its price was immediately raised, the New York Times reports. Now, it costs $750 a tablet. That’s a price increase of 5,455 percent. That puts prescribing doctors and suffering  patients at a very difficult position.

Several patients will go without this drug and this 'profit only matters' policy puts a huge burden on our healthcare system. This is a very dangerous profit driven policy that undermines human life. It only costs $1/tablet to make this drug. The drug must be sold at the same price as before, $13.50/ tablet. I urge patients, doctors, FDA regulators, Congressmen and general public to protest and change this policy.
