IHRC Hong Kong started this petition to Mr. Imran Khan (Prime Minister of Pakistan) and

A renowned academic, researcher, teacher and civil society activist, Professor Inam Bhatti, was arrested and disappeared on September 5, from Karachi Airport by the men in plain clothe while he was boarding for Turkey. His son, who was there to see him off, says he was stopped and kidnapped by the men from agencies when he was about to board on a flight to Turkey. It is said that men from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took Dr. Bhatti in their vehicle and taken to unknown destiny. When contacted FIA to enquire about his arrest the officers denied that they have arrested renowned scientist from Airport. Since then his whereabouts are unknown.

The enforced disappearances are common in Pakistan since the rule of military government of General Musharaf and after that this process of enforced disappearances continued during the successive civilian governments. The military always run a parallel government and was never been answerable to any legal forum for abduction and keeping in torture cells. The enforced disappearances by the security agencies have become a routine phenomenon for the courts. It is saddening to note that the agencies official show no remorse for their action rather they believe it to be their duty to disappear whomsoever they feel like. Leaving the legal and moral modalities at the back burner the agencies are empowered to use all tactics to suppress the people of Balochistan, Sindh and Tribal areas of KPK provinces. Dr. Bhatti is working as Director Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) and Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Sindh. He was traveling to Turkey to participate in a conference on Chemical Engineering, in which he was a co-organizer and was officially permitted by Mehran University of Engineering & Technology to participate.

The World Sindhi Congress (WSC) reacting on the disappearance of Dr. Bhatti pointed out that, Sindh is witnessing an unprecedented attack on political and civil society workers and human rights defenders. Every voice for rights of Sindhi people is strangled.

The International Human Rights Council (IHRC) urges upon the Pakistani authorities to immediately recover the renowned scientist and academic Dr. Inam Bhatti and if there is any case against him he should be brought before the court of law. The IHRC appeals the International Community including UN and human rights organisations to take notice of this and exert pressure upon Pakistan to stop human rights violations of Sindhi people.
