The issue of the legal and illegal mass hunting, killing, and exploitation of whales of all types for commercial profit must be brought to an end now! Whale populations are in a steady state of decline and extinction is inevitable for many species if aggressive action is not taken immediately. Whales are highly intelligent, gentle, and compassionate social creatures with many of the same values and characteristics as human beings. What is the definition of a "sentient being?" Webster's Dictionary defines "sentient" as: "1. Responsive to or conscious of sense impressions. 2. AWARE. 3. Finely sensitive in perception or feeling." Whales exhibit all of these characteristics and are therefore "sentient beings." Is it right or fair to torture and murder these majestic creatures for profit? As human beings, it is our responsibility to protect those who are being wrongly exploited. What kind of a world would this be without whales? Mr. President I compel you to use your authority to bring the issue of whale protection and conservation before the United Nations and the world stage before it's too late. I beseech you to have compassion for those who cannot speak-out or defend themselves. Please Mr. H.E. Mogens Lykketoft bring an end to legal and illegal commercial whaling now!
