Minorities need to feel safe at SHS/UCS

The Issue

The amount of homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and racism that is in Stevenson High school and the Utica Community School district in general is so terrifying. As a minority in this school/district I feel extremely unsafe at a place that is supposed to make me feel safe everyday.

I shouldn’t have the feeling of facing homophobia or racism whenever there is another male in the bathroom as I. I shouldn’t have the feeling of being judged in the halls every single day. I’m sure many other minorities in the school/district feel the same way as I do. If principle/superintendent can’t realize how much of the hate against minorities is in the school/district that is just showing how well they are at their jobs.

Their job as principle/superintendent is to make their students feel safe whenever they are in the area of the school(s). I also would like to point out that when I emailed one of the principles in the UCS and when he emailed me back he replied in a defensive tone as either he is trying to protect these men or that he is unaware of the fact that these men are in the school, both are bad.

Just as much as I love this school/district, it still has many flaws such as the ones I listed. Now I hope that you read this all and have thought ways to help minorities feel safe in your school/district.

A YEAR LATER

The fact I am here a year later fighting for the same issue is disgusting. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for not doing anything.

There is a video circulating around of a group of white Stevenson athletes bullying and harassing  a black athlete by blindfolding him and pointing nerf guns at him saying "shoot him in the head I dare you" he is then pushed to the ground, the setting changes and the person recording has a nerf gun and points it towards him and says "stop resisting" and you can hear in the background someone call him George Floyd. I have personally messaged the principal and asst. principal and asst. principal Robert Enne told me these exact words "I will inform you while there is a video, the message you are receiving may be innacurate"... sit and think about that for a minute and repeat it if you have to. The video was clearly racist and even if it wasn't direct (which it was) that isn't something you say when you get asked about your students racism.

I am disgusted by you Kenneth Cucchi and Robert Enne, you are lousy excuses for administration and I wouldn't even second guess if the rest are like you.
