The petition has been sent to John Champion, the director of Public Prosecutions! I had planned on sending it earlier but as it turns out downloading the document took a lot longer than I expected. There was 30,530 signatures on 764 pages!! Our deepest thanks go out to each and everyone of you. Where the system let us down you have all lifted us up and empowered us to keep going. Our petition won't be declared a success until Goal 2 has been achieved, that being, long term change in sentencing practices. So please keep sharing to garner more support for change that is so needed. In this short time we have heard of many more cases where lenient sentencing has devastated loved ones and negated the seriousness of the crimes committed. Including another murderer being sentenced to 16 years/13 years non-parole. At this time we are seeking for other victims to get in contact with us. If you know anyone that has suffered from unjust sentences please pass on our sincere wish to speak with them. Whatever happens, appeal or not, we feel justified in our outrage and push for change, thanks to you. It's a step closer towards healing the damage done here. Sincerely, Leah Handford.
