URGENT POSTPONE DSGMC POLLS PROMPTLY, PREVENT SUPER-SPREADING OF COVID19 AMONG DELHI SIKHS

The Issue

Sir,

The Covid19 pandemic situation in Delhi has gone beyond control and deaths are happening in the city. The health system has collapsed. Delhi Sikhs fear that there will be a super-spreading of the virus should they be forced to participate in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) polls scheduled for 25 April 2021.

The Chief Minister of Delhi has sent a recommendation to you on 20 April 2021, seeking postponement of the DSGMC polls to 13 May 2021, when the situation is expected to improve. Sikhs in Delhi anxiously await your nod to the prudent proposal. In such a situation, a free and fair poll cannot be held.

Good samaritan Sikhs and Gurdwara committees are engaged in providing beds, ventilators, oxygen cylinders, life-saving drugs and elections are the last thing on their mind. Sikhs in Delhi will not go out to vote as curfew has been imposed and they are worried about their relatives, friends and the community at large.

Your office must intervene without losing a minute and postpone the DSGMC polls without delay.

Thank you.
