The Canberra Page on Facebook just broke the news that the sign is back! We are ecstatic that after years of campaigning the sign is back up in it's rightful place - but a bit disappointed at the lack of communication from the authorities involved. Also, unfortunately it's missing it's title boxes - which were original to the sign. Regardless... we are taking this as an amazing win for the Save Our Starlight Sign campaign and we are just happy to see the sign back up and standing. Thanks everyone for your support, with it we were able to: - succeed in getting the Starlight Apartments Body Corporate to relinquish the sign to the ACT Government. After neglecting their responsibility to the heritage listed sign it's foundations became rusted and this led to it falling over. Now in the hands of ACT Heritage the sign will be looked after appropriately. - get the sign moved within the TAMS lot from out in the elements to an undercover location. Here it safely awaited it's restoration. - apply pressure to TAMS and Heritage to get the sign repaired/restored ASAP and, now as we found out today, re-erected. Although the majority of Canberra were supportive of us during this endeavor, Laurie, Jay and I did cop some flack and it was a bit disheartening but we feel it was well worth it to get a fragment of Canberra's soul reinstated. Thanks Canberra! (join the Save Our Starlight Sign FB page for more information!) - Irene
