MPS needs a more lenient phone policy
The Issue
In 2025, Wisconsin Act 42.2 was set to prohibit personal cell devices during classes. this law was enacted at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year for Milwaukee Public Schools.
Now, with MPS’s rule, students in middle and high school have to turn in their phones when they get to school and are only given them back during the last period of the day or when they leave.
The proposed solution is to have students turn in their phones every class period. This is so that in case of an emergency, students can contact home easily, but also have their phones away during instruction.
