  1. it seems to me that drug treatment in the uk is failing. the success rates for rehabs are engalnd is dismal, so why are they not seeking a new treatment for those aflicted by the often deadly disease of drug and alcahol addiction? for those affected by heroin or opiate addicts, quite often the only course of treatment is methadone perscribing, which only treats the symptom of addicts, not the route cause, and most people on methadone, stay on it for decades, and use heroin on top of it being a massive contribution to the over doses each year. methadone itself is not risk free, it stores in the fat cells and bones of the person perscribed, making withdrawing from that far more painful and harder then withdrawing from the heroin they were oriingionally on, wheres the sense in that. there has been a massive rise in people using spice too and homlessness and crime. something just isnt working. i think community drug treatment is not fit for purpose. i am an ex addict so i have personal experience with this, as a heroin addict of 13 years. also a family member was an addict and was left to rot and eventually die when he had other illnesses (he was no longer an active addict but still on methadone).. when methadone and rehab doesnt work, what then? nothing. there is not a war on drugs, it seems like a war on drug users!
  2. in almost every field of medicine, they look for cures, or better treatment options daily. why isnt this being done for addicton? this needs to be done.can you imagine if with any other illness that causes the amount of deaths per year that addiction does, litterally no reseach for a cure was being done. or if the treatment for that illness hadnt changed since the 1980's? the country would be in uproar. i want the country to be angry about the neglect of the most vulnerable in society!
  3. lets put pressure on the government and the nhs to look for better, newer ways to treat and maybe one day cure addictiion.
  4. there are now charities in charge of the care of addicts, such as turning point, addaction ect. they are in charge of the medical care and treatment of addicts, and i think this is obscene. what if charityies took over the care and treatment of those with heart failiure or diabetes. they might be non profit organizations, but they sure do have fantastic wages at the top. THE NHS should be treating the ill, not charities. i do not wash over the fantastic work these charities do, and the workers are tryng their best with little funding and rescourses, but come on, enough is enough this is a medical problem and a serious one at that that needs a whole new approach.
  5. maybe it needs tackling from a neurology point of view? but i certaiinly dont think charities treating people with a mental illness that completely disrupts the chemistry of the brain is sufficent.
  6. please support me. lets try to end our sons, daughter, mums dads, brothers and sisters from living a life of hell and addiction and being neglected by the system on top of that.
  7. most forms of drug treatment dont adequetly educate addicts with coping skills in their addiction, or proven ways to re-wire the brain or how to get key nutrients that restores neurotransmitters in the brain. when you consider that addiction affects the entire neuo-system, and affects chemicles like seratonin, dopamine and endorphiines, i dont think that simply perscribing methadone, or giving group therapy can adequetly treat this problem. this is not to mention the underlying mental health issues most addicts have, or the underlying trauma that many women living with addiction have suffered.
  8. what i would like to see is, addicton tackled, and treated from a different perspective. it causes all kinds of inbalances in the brain so why isnt it being treated by neurology departments?
  9. addiction affects us all, weather its ourselves, our famly members, friends, or your the general public and your sick of money being wasted on treatments that just dont work, either way, like it or not, it affects us all.
  10. for example, dishing out methadone might seem cheaper on the public purse, but is it really.....how many addicts commit crime? thats the police to pay for, the court systems to pay for, the jals to pay for, the food they eat whilst in jail, the transport to get them to jail. or children of addicts in care, thats the kids to pay for for how many years? or addicts unable to work and on benefits due to chaotic lifestyle, how much does that cost? what about the many many addicts that have major health problems and end up in hospitals? all the while spending years or decades in drug treatment, getting nowhere. what if the cost of treatment was initially more but they became cured or abstained for life, wouldnt that be much cheaper?
  11. i ask for an over-haul into the way addicton is treated. charities havent managed to come up with a cure, or a succesful way of getting addicts clean long term, so lets see if other areas of the health departments can.
