No grey areas on legislation, make dog’s owners fully responsible for their off leash dog.
The Issue
I’m a first time dog owner and have rescued an adult female mix Malinois, great with young children as my youngest is 10. I started her training with a well respected and experienced dog trainer as soon as she was adopted. I have never let her off the lead as I’m a strong believer on controlling my dog fully. On the two months date, we had an incident with an off lead dog with no recall whatsoever and after I have kindly asked not to let the dog near mine. My dog is now muzzled, on a short lead and wears anxious harness. I haven’t been able since to enjoy a walk to our beautiful parks, woods and beaches because they are full of dogs off the lead and I don’t know if their owners are aware of their dog’s whereabouts or power of recall.
A dog off leash and with no good recall is by definition considered ‘ out of control ‘.
So many of us rescue dogs to give them the chance of a loving home and stability, Please don’t forget they have been abandoned, mistreated, starved, overbred and much more!
Happily with the increased number of adopters and foster families you can help us greatly for a wonderful experience with our dogs too.
Please help me with the grey areas on the legislation on off lead dog attacks or any kind of destructive behaviour. If your dog is off lead you have full responsibility of their behaviour.
This will greatly help as owners will feel more inclined to know what their dog is up to and that if something happens is their own negligence.
Have any of you had an off leash dog ruining your run? Cycling? Picnic ? Training? Frightened young children or attacked your dog?
Many other Countries have on leash only law, I know many of you want your dogs to run free, but please do it at least with respect of others.
I want to go back to my field walks with my wonderful dog and not worry about your dog!
Please take full responsibility of your off leash dog behaviour!
