MP Gill German - Stand With Us, Say No to Cruel PIP Cuts
The Issue
PIP is a lifeline for so many of us, and we are urging Gill German MP to listen to us and oppose cuts to these vital disability benefits.
In Clwyd North in Jan. 2025 there were 10,459 PIP claimants making PIP the main extra-costs disability benefit for people of working age. 14.9% of working age adults in Clwyd North claim PIP, compared with the Wales rate of 11.7% and a rate of 8.1% in England & Wales. These cuts will also disproportionately affect Wales overall.
This crisis hasn’t come from nowhere. Multiple studies have linked it to structural issues - austerity, intergenerational inequality, and an NHS on its knees. But proposals in the Green Paper: Pathways to Work insists that we are the problem and plans on stripping disabled people of their benefits.
We all agree that the benefits system should be reformed. Every single one of us who has been through the PIP process has faced barriers and seen first-hand how the system is not fit for purpose. The proposed cuts to PIP are rushed, ill-informed and dangerous.
We are asking Gill to stand with her disabled constituents and oppose these cuts, which, if implemented, will mean:
- 87% of Standard Daily Living Rate PIP claimants are set to lose support according to a Freedom of Information request report on the projected impact of the cuts.
- The Department for Work and Pensions' (DWP) own impact assessment suggests that the changes to the PIP assessment will push 300,000 people into poverty.
- On average, disabled households need an additional £1,010 a month to have the same standard of living as non-disabled households.
Your MP for Clwyd North, Gill German, has explicitly said that she WILL be voting for the proposals set out by the government.
Please sign this petition to ask her to commit to the following:
1. Vote against the changes to PIP in Parliament
There is a growing number of MPs who are deeply uncomfortable with these plans and are willing to vote against them. The greater the number of MPs that commit to this, the more likely it is that the government will be forced to rethink.
2. Write to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
Explain that she is worried about the impact that these cuts will have on her disabled constituents and urge the Sec. of State for Work and Pensions to rethink the plans.
If you live in the constituency of Clwyd North (which includes postcodes LL16, LL17, LL18, LL19, LL22, LL28, LL29) please sign this petition to ask Gill German MP to VOTE AGAINST these cruel PIP cuts.
Whether you are claiming PIP yourself, have applied for PIP and had your application rejected, or are simply a concerned constituent, please sign our petition to stand up for disabled constituents in Clwyd North.
Thank you.
