A message from the Township of Langley: The public is encouraged to drop in to an information session about an upcoming transportation project that proposes changes to truck routes in North Langley. Residents and business owners are invited to attend the information session to learn how the proposed project could impact them and to provide input. Call for Volunteers to help get the word out The Township of Langley wants to turn Walnut Grove into a truck corridor to get to Golden Ears Way, the South Fraser Perimeter Road and Port Kells. Truck traffic will increase along 88th and 96th Avenues in addition to 216th Street -- of this there is no doubt. The only way to stop this result is to prevent 216th Street from highway 1 to 88th Avenue from becoming a truck route. What can we do? We can petition the BC Government to prohibit trucks from using the 216th Street interchange. We can petition the Township of Langley to prevent them from changing this portion of the road into a truck route. The Walnut Grove community plan currently defines the Land use for 216th from Hwy1 to 88th Ave as a minor collector route, meaning this is "local traffic only". We do not want trucks transiting through residential Walnut Grove. Trucks belong on 200th street to get to those destinations and not on roads with elementary schools! Linda Nash is coordinating a door–to-door petition campaign to fight the Township of Langley’s proposal to make 216th Street from the highway to 88th Avenue into a truck route and part of the Major Road Network. She needs volunteers to go door to door in Walnut Grove to inform people of the situation and to get their signatures on a petition that will be submitted to the Township of Langley and to the Province of BC.
