Dear supporters, Many of you were awesome enough to stop by the Firefox Add-Ons blog [1] in February to express your concern regarding the removal of XUL-based extensions without first giving Firefox users a viable replacement. Sadly, even though the blog posting received over 130 responses most expressing concern over the proposed changes coming to Firefox, Mozilla is proceeding as planned [2] with the removal of all support for XUL-based extensions in November 2017. Sadly, it looks like Firefox 53 will be the first release where many of us will begin to feel the pinch. So, what can we do? Here are a couple of ideas: - Switch over the Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) [3]. This version of Firefox still gets security updates but moves much more slowly, so you'll be able to use your favorite extensions longer. Installing it would entail removing your currently-installed Firefox and then installing the ESR version. Be sure to select Firefox 45 in the "Show" heading if you do decide to download in order to get the maximum shelf life out of your ESR install. And who knows - perhaps if Mozilla starts seeing a spike in ESR usage, it might just get their attention? - Support the developers of your favorite Add-Ons. If you go to the Mozilla Add-Ons homepage [4], you'll see you can donate to Add-On developers right from the Add-Ons website. Maybe make yourself a nice pour over tomorrow and skip your regular Starbucks so you can give the money to a dev who's made your digital life on Firefox better? Or, if you can't give money right now, shoot out a quick thank-you tweet or email telling them you love their work. Anything we as Firefox users can do will make a difference in these devs' motivation to continue to make great Add-Ons for Firefox. Thanks again for your support of this petition and of the Firefox web browser. Let's continue working however we can to make it the best it can be for all Firefox users!
