What movie with a deaf actress is eagerly anticipated? Eternals! On November 5, Eternals will be officially released. Many theaters have already scheduled open captioned screenings (sometimes multiple open captioned screenings in one day) and are offering advance tickets.

In Eternals, Lauren Ridloff plays superhero Makkari. Ridloff already has a fan base due to her role as “Connie” in “The Walking Dead” TV series. Plus, she had the role of “Diane” in the movie “Sound of Metal.”

How can you find the scheduled open caption screenings of Eternals? Check theater apps and websites. Generally, the apps are easier to use than the websites. Select the November date you want, then check the results for an open captioned screening of Eternals. If your preferred theater does not have an open captioned screening of Eternals, contacting the theater manager(s) to request one may be an option. Emphasize that of all movies, this one should have at least one open captioned screening.

Also! On Wednesday, October 13, AMC CEO Adam Aron (@CEOAdam) announced on Twitter that AMC will permanently offer "some" open caption screenings weekly. Some mainstream news media outlets picked up the story. AMC’s theaters that offer open captions are listed here: https://www.amctheatres.com/open-caption Wouldn’t it be nice if open captioned screenings could outsell non-open captioned screenings?

As wonderful as that news is, we STILL need new laws for open captioning in movie theaters because unless open captions are legally required, there is nothing to stop theaters from cutting back on their open caption offerings. That brings us to the New York City Update...
