Move Yashiro Japanese Garden to Burri Park

Move Yashiro Japanese Garden to Burri Park
The Issue
Yashiro Japanese Garden, a cherished symbol of Olympia's connection with its sister city Yashiro, Japan, is at risk. The land on which this serene garden currently resides has been sold, posing a threat to its existence. For years, this garden has been a peaceful retreat, showcasing the beauty and tranquility of Japanese landscapes and serving as a cultural bridge between our two cities.
We propose relocating the Yashiro Japanese Garden to Burri Park, a potential sanctuary just three miles away. At present, Burri Park is an underutilized space, hosting only a field, a basketball hoop, a swing set, a couple of benches, and tables. Yet, it holds so much potential. With its ample space, it can accommodate the garden's plants, statues, and the beloved koi pond, ensuring that this vital piece of Olympia's heritage is preserved.
Conveniently, Burri Park is on a free bus line, making it accessible to all residents and visitors. Relocating the garden here would not only save it from being lost to urban development but would also breathe new life into Burri Park, transforming it into a cultural haven. This move supports the sustainability and accessibility of Olympia's shared public spaces.
We need your support to urge city officials to take action and save Yashiro Japanese Garden by moving it to Burri Park. Help keep this essential part of our community alive for future generations. Sign this petition to voice your support for preserving Olympia's cultural and natural heritage.
