The Issue

In recent times, the actions of the government of the United States have left many of us disheartened and deeply concerned about the values being upheld in what should be a bastion of freedom and equality. The brutal treatment of immigrants and its own citizens should not be overlooked or ignored by the international community, and certainly not by the sports world, which often stands as a beacon of unity and respect among nations.

The Springboks vs All Blacks test match, traditionally one of the most celebrated encounters in the rugby world, is scheduled to be played in Baltimore. However, the current political climate and the human rights abuses being perpetuated within the US make it an unsuitable venue for such a prestigious event. Hosting the match in the US under these circumstances could be seen as a tacit endorsement of these actions, something neither the rugby teams nor the sport stands for.

By moving the match to a different country, one with a strong rugby tradition and a commitment to human rights, we can send a powerful message: that sports should promote peace and equality, not be overshadowed by or associated with injustice. Countries such as South Africa itself, New Zealand, Australia, or even in Europe, all of which have vibrant rugby cultures and more favorable human rights records, are much better suited to host this event.

The decision to change the venue of this highly anticipated game must not be taken lightly. It's about standing up for what is right, aligning with the core values that rugby champions—integrity, respect, solidarity, passion, and discipline.

Sign this petition to urge the organizers and governing bodies involved to reconsider the location of this iconic rugby test to ensure that our beloved sport maintains its honour and ethical standards. Together, we can make a stand and show that we will not allow our sports to be tainted by association with oppressive actions. Please sign and make your voice heard.
