For residents of and visitors to Allbrook, walking in the natural beauty of its local meadow has been a cherished part of daily lives. It's a place where our community and walkers beyond, have found peace and tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The vibrant green space has not only been a haven for local wildlife but also a sanctuary for humans seeking a quiet escape.

However, the recent erection of an adult gym at the entrance to Allbrook Meadow has significantly disrupted this serene environment. The gym equipment, stark and industrial, stands in sharp contrast to the lush, natural surroundings. It has turned what was once a picturesque entrance into an eyesore, detracting from the meadow's innate beauty and altering its peaceful ambiance.

In its current position, the gym development contradicts the essence of Allbrook Meadow - a natural refuge away from the man-made structures that dominate our urban landscapes. This installation disrupts the visual harmony of the area.

We understand the positive intent to promote fitness and healthy lifestyles, and that’s a good one, but the choice of location for this equipment seems misguided.

The good news is - the issue is fully resolvable by moving the structures to a position which is not omnivisible in the meadow. Moving the structures would also satisfy the desire of the local residents, who do not want to see this structure, or any future structures visibly.

We call on the parish council and relevant authorities to please have the adult gym at Allbrook Meadow moved as soon as possible, to an alternative more discrete location, so that the adult fitness equipment does not compromise the natural environment and view.

Notes:
i) Moving the gym - some suggestions:

a) To inside the meadow to the left of its current position and next the the tree line at the top of the hill, would mean it doesn’t interrupt the Itchen Valley views

b) To inside the meadow to the right of its current position so it remains next to the road, but is shielded by trees so it doesn’t disturb the local houses, and is not omnipresent or ruin the view 

c) To the green space on Allbrook Hill (under the archway), would be an ideal location as it wouldn’t ruin any views and would be a great private place to use the equipment. Note here: although the gym is intended only to be used by 'adults and youths', young children (as young as 8 years old) have been using the equipment unaccompanied and therefore, the danger of walking on Allbrook Hill, may outweigh the private location.   

ii) Many residents have expressed that they’d “love to use the gym, but wouldn’t where it is, as it’s in full view of passers by.”
