The Issue

Imagine your child brimming with excitement, eager to walk the same halls as their family members, and ready to share in the rich traditions of their community at a beloved and historic high school. This was our reality until we faced the crushing disappointment of discovering the lifeskills class that was housed at  Grayslake Central was now combined with Grayslake North lifeskills class and both would be held at North. It left many families, including ours, questioning why this decision was made and how it could be justified.

For years, Grayslake Central High School and Grayslake North have provided an environment that cultivates academic achievement, personal growth, and a strong sense of community. It's a place where our children not only receive a quality education but also build lifelong friendships and memories that shape their futures. Our daughter, like her brother, was thrilled to become a Grayslake Central Ram, to engage in this supportive atmosphere, and to become part of our local legacy. We even picked our house based on the boundaries to ensure that our child would attend Central.

We are calling on the Grayslake Community High School District 127 to reconsider this decision and bring a lifeskills classroom back to Grayslake Central. This action not only honours the legacy of our school but also ensures that our children can thrive in an environment that feels like home.

According to various educational studies, integrating lifeskills programs within local schools fosters better educational outcomes and emotional well-being among students, enhancing their future success. We urge the decision-makers to consider these findings and realign the lifeskills program with Grayslake Central's renowned facilities and support systems.

Your support can help us restore this essential program to its rightful place. Please sign and share this petition to enable similar success stories for all our children and reaffirm our community's educational commitments.
