Working at Saco Bay Physical Therapy, I've seen firsthand how the current location of the summer concerts at Vallee Square, Westbrook, presents significant challenges for many of our patients. Many of our patients have mobility issues—being fall risks, post-operative patients, or those who utilize walking aids and rely on caregivers. Accessibility to our clinic is crucial for maintaining their health and ensuring they can make it to their appointments. Unfortunately, the summer concerts block off Vallee Square from June throughout August, making it difficult for these individuals to access the much-needed physiotherapy services.

During these months, the closure of Vallee Square prevents our patients from easily navigating to our facility. Many are unable to use the parking garage due to its distance and the difficulty they face in walking long distances or over uneven terrain. The blocked roads and restricted access exacerbate these issues, creating unnecessary hurdles for those who require regular therapy sessions as part of their recovery and rehabilitation.

We are proposing that these summer concerts be relocated to another area of Westbrook that would not disrupt access to critical healthcare services. There are several alternative venues for the events, such as community parks or other open spaces that could host the summer activities without compromising accessibility for those in need. By selecting a different location, we can continue to support local culture and community gatherings while simultaneously ensuring that our patients' healthcare needs are met without obstruction.

The summer concerts are a treasured part of Westbrook's cultural life, bringing joy and entertainment to many. However, the health and wellbeing of our community should always be prioritized. By moving the events to an alternate location, we can help ensure that everyone has equal access to both community events and necessary health services.
