Give Students The Option of Moving Graduation Back to It's Rightful Place
Give Students The Option of Moving Graduation Back to It's Rightful Place
The Issue
This year the university have decided to move graduation ceremonies from the beautiful, historic chapel, to a 'purpose built structure' on founder's field. Frankly, that is an embarrassment, and disrespectful to the students that have worked so had over the past three years to achieve their degree. Students that have invested thousands of pounds into the university. Students that have had to suffered through a pandemic, covid teaching, no freshers for two years, no summer ball in the first year, and now they want to ruin our graduation. They've held the ceremonies in there for years, why change now? Not only did they have this huge change, they did it behind our backs, treating us like children. We are grown adults, and should've had a say in where our graduation takes place, and how our money is spent. Why spent money on a temporary structure when that beautiful building is sitting there for free? Is that the best way to spend money when accommodation is falling apart, teachers are striking and we are in a cost of living crisis. This was a catastrophic failure on the university's behalf, and there needs be more communication from the organisers of graduations. Waiting till an unknown data in April to see the plans for it, is not good enough. Not giving a proper announcement is not good enough. Not giving us a choice is not good enough. We want to university to realise the design plans immediately, and rather than deciding for us, give us the option to have it in the 'structure' or in the traditional chapel.
