Move Eid-Al-Adha break day from 6/5 (Thursday) to 6/6 (Friday)

Move Eid-Al-Adha break day from 6/5 (Thursday) to 6/6 (Friday)
The Issue
Dear Students & the People of New York,
As many know, the Department of Education of New York City has made a city-wide schedule for students. Amongst those calendar days, the Eid al-Adha break day is on the wrong day of the calendar. According to many religious affairs organizations across many countries & inside the united states, Eid al-Adha is four days long, lasting from the Evening of Thursday June 5th - to the morning of Monday June 9th 2025. This is a big problem, as many Muslim students across New York City have to observe their religious holiday on a school day. Eid al-Adha is the 2nd and final religious festival in Islam, where it is intended to be a day where fellow brothers and sisters spend time with their families, and enjoy their time together.
Per chancellor's regulations, all students and staff are legally obligated & given the freedom to practice their religion, followed by the 1st Amendment rights of all citizens.
I would like to request that the Department of Education & the City Mayor's office makes the motion to move the Eid al-Adha break day from Thursday June 5th 2025, to Friday June 6th 2025.
Any questions or concerns, please email ozanimransen@gmail.com or message the @hsmsacouncil on instagram.
