Happy Easter to those who may (or may not) be celebrating tomorrow!
Tomorrow is “my” Easter although it is in two weeks time for the rest of the UK, and three weeks time for the millions or Orthodox Christians all around the world (including here, in the UK).
Although, as my previous post, the two Easter dates “use” the same Sunday every so many years, they are actually at very different points within their respective date ranges!
For example, in the year 2010, Orthodox Easter fell on its absolute earliest date (March 22 Julian/April 4 Gregorian) meaning Orthodox Christians were experiencing a calendrical anomaly while for Protestants/Catholics it was just a standard mid-range date. The exact opposite effect occurs in 2038, where Protestants/Catholics experience their absolute latest date while for Orthodox Christians it is just a standard “common” mid-range date despite the two dates “using” the same Sunday!
When Western (Protestant/Catholic) Easter is exceptionally early (such as 2008) or Orthodox Easter is exceptionally late (such as 1983), there is inevitably a five-week gap between the two sets of celebrations and Orthodox Easter Monday also not coinciding with the UK’s Early May bank holiday causing significant problems for the Orthodox population.
As per my previous petition update, any Orthodox Christian living from 1975 to 2065 aged 90 not only gets to see their earliest, exact middle or latest date – they also get to experience their Easter on EVERY SINGLE DATE within a week of their earliest and latest possible date (i.e. between March 22nd-28th/April 4th-10th N.S and between April 19th-25th/May 2nd-8th N.S) and the list below shows!
- Earliest (Mar 22 OS/Apr 4 NS): Occurred in 2010
- Second-earliest (Mar 23 OS/Apr 5 NS): Will occur in 2037 and 2048
- Third-earliest (Mar 24 OS/Apr 6 NS): Occurred in 1980
- Fourth-earliest (Mar 25 OS/Apr 7 NS): Occurred in 1991
- Fifth-earliest (Mar 26 OS/Apr 8 NS): Occurred in 2007 and 2018, will occur again in 2029
- Sixth-earliest (Mar 27 OS/Apr 9 NS): Will occur in 2034, 2045 and 2056
- Latest-earliest (Mar 28 OS/Apr 10 NS): Will occur in 2061
- Median (Apr 8 OS/Apr 21 NS): Will occur in 2041, 2047 and 2052
- Earliest-latest (Apr 19 OS/May 2 NS): Occurred in 2021 and will occur again in 2027 and 2032
- Sixth-latest (Apr 20 OS/May 3 NS): Will occur in 2043 and 2054
- Fifth-latest (Apr 21 OS/May 4 NS): Will occur in 2059
- Fourth-latest (Apr 22 OS/May 5 NS): Occurred in 2002, 2013 and 2024
- Third-latest (Apr 23 OS/May 6 NS): Will occur in 2040
- Second-latest (Apr 24 OS/May 7 NS): Will occur in 2051
- Latest (Apr 25 OS/May 8 NS): Occurred in 1983
Excluding the earliest and latest dates themselves, that’s absolutely every date within a week of both the earliest and latest dates as well as the middle date, so its so unfair that Orthodox Christians can experience all these dates naturally within a 90 year life span whereas Western Christians are denied the chance UNLESS PETITIONS ARE CREATED!
As a regular rail commuter, I also hate hearing announcements about engineering works over the Easter weekend from Friday 3rd April-Monday 6th April which for me is the wrong day!
2043 would be a good year for the proposed move to March 22 as that year Easter is March 29th and does not coincide with Orthodox Easter, so it will only needed to be moved back by one week to be on the earliest date!
Although I was alive back in 2010 when Orthodox Easter his its version of March 22nd, because I live in the UK where 95% of the population is Western Christian it was an event which passed me by and quite frankly I had never even heard or Orthodox Easter back then!
Out of protest, I am going to be watching Alice in Wonderland on April 5th as that is un-Easter, much like the un-birthday from Alice in Wonderland!
APRIL 5th 2026 IS ALICE IN WONDERLAND DAY!
