Move Camarillo fireworks to protect shelter animals

Move Camarillo fireworks to protect shelter animals
The Issue
The Fourth of July is a time for celebration, community, and fireworks. However, for the animals at the Ventura County Animal Shelter, this festive occasion turns into a night of terror due to the loud noise. One and a half miles away, the Camarillo fireworks are currently set off, causing distress and panic among animals, some of whom cannot be consoled for hours.
The sound of fireworks can be intensely stressful for animals, affecting their health and well-being. A commonly accepted decibel reduction of just a few points can make a significant difference. In this case, moving the fireworks display to California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) would result in an 8-decibel drop in sound level. This reduction might be half as loud to the animals and could greatly minimize the trauma caused by the current fireworks setup.
We urge the City of Camarillo to conduct a site feasibility study at CSUCI, evaluating this location as a potential alternative for the annual fireworks display. This site is not only viable because of its distance from the animal shelter, but it also offers ample space for community members to enjoy the event safely and comfortably.
The well-being of the animals at the Ventura County Animal Shelter should be a priority, especially during holiday celebrations, when the impact of loud noises is most profound. Let's take this compassionate step towards minimizing harm and distress to these animals by choosing a more appropriate venue for our fireworks display.
By signing this petition, you are joining us in urging Camarillo city officials to recognize the issue at hand and act in the best interest of both the animals and the community. Your support can make this considerate change a reality. Please sign and lend your voice to protect the animals at our local shelter from unnecessary distress.
