Move all locomotives out of LTEX's train graveyard in McDonald, Ohio

The issue

Larry's Truck and Electric (reporting mark: LTEX) has a ton of locomotives sitting in storage at not just McDonald, Ohio, but Lordstown, Ohio. But the main focus of this petition is about McDonald, Ohio.

Since there's a lot of old locomotives wanting to be in museums, not wanting to be cut up and lost forever, LTEX is known to be a scrapper, similar to Pielet Bros., Chrome Crankshaft, Southwest Railroad Car Parts, and Levin Metals, just to name a few.

Many scrap yards were closed down due to the following issues listed here:

  • Mounting financial struggles
  • Excessive environmental liabilities in the mid-1990s
  • Intense environmental lawsuits

Since LTEX has a ton of parts lying around, it can fall into the category of the "auto fluff" accumulation, similar to Pielet Bros., as the site was filled with enormous, toxic piles of "auto fluff", which is a term to describe "waste from shredded cars" that accumulated over time, and were described as being "four stories high".

While the piles at LTEX may not be four stories high, it still can be considered as "auto fluff" as they have a ton of parts lying around on the floor, where if they stayed there for too long, they could:

  • A. Be stolen by thieves
  • B. Rot away as they get broken down in the ground
  • C. Partially stolen by thieves, where they cut the parts into smaller pieces and then get taken away.

Another issue about this is that many of these older locomotive models are now being endangered and are at risk of extinction, with some highlights being the SD9s, SD7s, SD18s, or even to sum it up, the ENTIRE FIRST GENERATION OF EMD LOCOMOTIVES.

The longer these locomotives sit in the facility, the higher chance they could be scrapped. It feels like it's an eviction notice or clean up notice just waiting to happen. Similar to this instance here, but not at a scrapyard.

So, what are you waiting for, LET'S SAVE HISTORY. YOU WOULDN'T WANT AN SD7/SD9/SD18 BEING DESTROYED. WE MUST CLEAN UP THE GRAVEYARD.
