Dear friends,

On Monday, September 28th, the BC Supreme Court will consider whether or not to approve the proposed sale of MEC to the US private equity firm, Kingswood Capital.

Thanks to thousands of grassroots donations, we have been able to retain lawyers and we’re getting ready to go to court to oppose the sale and fight for the future of our coop. Now we need your help to improve our chances of success.

RBC, along with its partners TD and CIBC, are MEC’s main creditors. If they agree to extend their support for two more weeks, it could stop the sale for now and give us - MEC’s member-owners - enough time to solidify the other financial arrangements that we have been working on.

Will you send a letter to key members of RBC, TD, and CIBC and ask them to extend their loan deadline by two weeks?

We’ve built a new online tool to help you quickly and easily send an email to key decision makers: David McKay, CEO of RBC; Rod Bolger, CFO of RBC; Graeme Hepworth, RBC’s Chief Risk Officer; Michael Dobbins, RBC’s Chief Strategy Officer; and John Stackhouse, Senior Vice-President of RBC. In addition, your email will be cc’d into the inboxes of the CEO, CFO, and Chief Risk Officers of both TD and CIBC.

Our goal is for them to receive 10,000 emails before Monday morning. Will you help us to reach or even exceed that goal?

The banks care deeply about their public image, and if enough of us take action right now, we can convince them to extend their loans long enough for us to put an alternative plan in place.

Click here to send your message now. It only takes a minute.

It’s truly incredible to see what we’ve achieved together in just 10 days. Over 130,000 people have signed petitions opposing the sale of MEC, we’ve raised nearly $100,000 to fund our legal challenge. And our core team of volunteers are working with experts in financing and governance to come up with solutions to help save our Coop.

Thanks again for being a part of it!
