Over the past 10 days, over 13,000(!!) people have registered their names and contact information, calling on Mountain Equipment Co-operative to call a Special Emergency Meeting to stop the sale of MEC to a US-based private equity firm.
We need as many signatures as we can to prove to the board of directors that it’s Co-op members who want to stop the sale of MEC to a private American equity firm.
In these ten days, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of concern over this sale. Over 133,000 people from all walks of life across Canada have signed petitions on change.org. We’ve raised over $94,000 in legal and support fees, and we’ve had over 130 media stories written about our movement.
I have to tell you something: I’m cautiously excited! The sale of MEC can not be finalized until Monday, and for several days now, teams of people and organizations have been working hard to come up with an alternative to the sale of MEC to US-based Kingswood Capital. We are closer than ever to finding a financial solution to the challenges facing our Co-operative.
However — and I can’t stress this enough — in order for any of this change to happen, we still need to get as many Co-op member signatures as we possibly can to call for a Special General Meeting.
