Immediate Removal from NYSNA of Mount Sinai System Area Director Terry Alaimo

Immediate Removal from NYSNA of Mount Sinai System Area Director Terry Alaimo

The Issue

As per the U.S. Department of Labor and the Office of Labor-Management Standards, union members have equal rights to

participate in union activities, freedom of speech and assembly and safeguards against improper discipline

In accordance with these rights and in violation of them we demand that Terry Alaimo, NYSNA Area Director for Mount Sinai West, Mount Sinai Main and Mount Sinai Morningside be removed from NYSNA, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

Terry Alaimo failed to protect the nurses during this Covid-19 crisis by collaborating and colluding with management despite the nurses at Mount Sinai West reporting multiple times to her, that the lack of preparedness and Personal Protective Equipment was putting them, their families and patients in danger.

Instead of providing support during these difficult times, Terry Alaimo asked that the union reps under her supervision stop rounding in the facility, therefore denying the nurses further access to the union. Despite several reports, emails, text messages and phone calls with concerns she continued to insist that management was doing everything they needed to do and things were fine

On March 21, when nurses posted a picture of colleagues wearing garbage bags for gowns, she decided to publicly shame the nurses by calling them liars, accusing them of spreading rumors and even bullying them for reporting their concerns. As a result several nurses have been exposed to the virus and have become too ill to work. Terry Alaimo is currently and actively bullying and discouraging the nurses from voicing their concerns and speaking out in public regarding the dangerous conditions in the hospitals.

We demand that her salary also be used to buy nurses the PPE they desperately need including coveralls with hood, shoe covers, goggles, N95 masks, face shields and protective gloves.
