Recently, a Mount Dora homeowner commissioned artist Richard Barrenechea to paint a mural on her wall and home.

After abandoning its original claim that the interpretation of van Gogh's "Starry Night" was a graffiti code violation, the city instead determined it's an illegal sign. The City of Mount Dora can now levy fines against the homeowner.

Home colors and murals are not addressed in the City of Mount Dora codes. Additionally, the home is not in a homeowners association and is not deed-restricted.

The city has built a reputation on supporting the arts.
Barrenechea, a local artist, has exhibited in galleries in Orlando, Miami, Punta Del Este, Uruguay, and Italy.
