As a type II diabetic I was prescribed Ozempic weekly injections which cost me $40 per month on PBS.

I had to change to Mounjaro weekly injections due to the popularity of Ozempic for people wanting to lose weight (not necessarily diabetic) and my inability to obtain it regularly because of this, which significantly impacted my health.

Mounjaro, a Type II weekly injection is NOT currently on PBS and is costing me $700 (recommended dose for type II diabetics) per month for those who NEED it, not want it just  for its weight loss potential.

I am retired, and this is neither sustainable or reasonable in this Country.

It’s about time the health needs of diabetic patients versus those who just want to lose weight were differentiated.

The news last night ( 1/4/25) on Channel 9 only highlighted a woman who had lost a significant amount of weight on Mounjaro- there was no mention of the drug being prescribed for people with diabetes. The cost of the drug for diabetics (recommended dose is 15mgs) was also not mentioned and is $700 per month.

I don’t choose this medication solely to lose weight, I need it to manage my diabetes.
