Vaddem Lake a Tirtha shetra

To the surprise of many, the only salt water lake in Goa is at Vaddem area of Murgaon taluka also known as Shambhaji Nagar and Vasco Da Gama. Astonishingly this water body shows a rise and decrease in water levels as per oceanic tides establishing it's connection to the Arabian sea via Mandovi river. This is nothing more than a devine existence of God's own creation.

It is well known that there existed a Santeri temple opposite this lake on the hill(New Vaddem) with steps leading to the temple. The steps still exist as an evidence behind Sharon enclave opposite the lake. Unfortunately the temple does not exist now. All sacred rituals of this temple were performed at this lake as a water body is of utmost importance for Hindu rituals. The water of this lake was used as sacred water (tirtha). And hence this lake is believed to be holy since centuries. This is one major reasons all the Ganesh idols are immersed here after Chaturthi Pooja.

Having been worshipped by every citizen of Murgaon, regardless of their religion Lord Damodar has been safeguarding us for more than a century. In the past it was said that this lake was known to be Damodar kund after Lord Damodar was brought to Murgaon.

Let's us all unite and reclaim our ancestral heritage which was once full of culture and sacredness at this lake. We have the legacy of sacred rituals performed by our ancestors here such as Pooja's, havan and Ganapati Visarjan. Let's get back the legacy and sacredness of the lake and the only way it can happen is by renaming the Lake as Damodar Kund.
