Community Sports Minister Ros Spence has announced State Government funding for the synthetic pitch at Hosken Reserve will be revoked, but our community greenspace is not safe yet. (You can help save our park by joining our fundraising trivia night this Friday!)
Minister Spence stated "the review found that no community consultation had been conducted by Moreland City Council for the specific project it sought state government funding for, contrary to the undertakings made in the funding application [...] Further, council did not have the broad-based community support which it claimed to have in the funding application."
This announcement is a positive development for the community and residents are relieved that the State Government listened to our concerns, did a full investigation and made the right decision on this grant.
Unfortunately, there are still a significant number of councillors and council staff at Moreland who are working to proceed with this project despite the failures in community engagement and the lack of support for a synthetic pitch from residents and ratepayers.
We'll continue to push for full, meaningful, collaborative community consultation on any plans for Hosken Reserve. You can help by contacting your local councillors to urge them to listen to the community and go back to the drawing board on Hosken Reserve.
