Thanks everyone for signing the petition to demand a halt to works at Hosken Reserve to allow for community consultation. Our story made it to front page of the Melbourne section of the Age today thanks to all of you! We have gathered over 2000 signatures in just over one week, which we'll present when residents meet with the CEO of Moreland City Council, Cathy Henderson.
Skip to the end to find out how you can take action to make sure the community's voice is heard.
The "Keep Hosken Reserve accessible for all" group on Facebook has over 350 members. Join to participate in community discussions, stay up to date on the latest developments, and find out how to get involved in the campaign: https://www.facebook.com/groups/337017957738375/?ref=share
We'll be sending out another quick update once our website is up and running - so please keep an eye out for that.
If you care about Hosken Reserve and about transparency in Local Government and you have a few more minutes to spare, please write emails to:
- Moreland City Council at: info@moreland.vic.gov.au
to demand answers about how this project was allowed to go to tender without any community consultation about the key element of the project (i.e. replacing the grass oval with a full sized synthetic soccer turf). - the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions at: grantsinfo@sport.vic.gov.au
asking how Moreland City Council was awarded a World Game Facilities Fund grant without meeting the eligibility criteria for community consultation and support.
Make sure to send the email to the Minister for Community Sport as well: ros.spence@parliament.vic.gov.au.
