As one of the oldest counties in America, Henrico should be more established as a community that offers a healthy alternative to driving by now. Richmond was dubbed the second fattest city in America in 2012. According to findthedata.org, 22.7% of people are obese in Henrico County. More sidewalks will increase the likelihood that people will walk as opposed to using their cars, lowering health risks not only from exercise but by reducing harmful fuel emissions that come from using cars everywhere . Sidewalks provide a safer way of getting around on foot (as opposed to walking on unlevel ground and potentially falling or walking in the street and getting hit by a car). They provide a safer place for children to play and the elderly and disabled to get around. Sidewalks will allow neighbors to visit one another without walking on each other's lawns to get there.
