As a parent, my heart aches with the constant worry that comes with daily life in America today. Having a son of my own, I am haunted by the fear of taking him to daycare or school, places where he should learn and grow in safety. The simple act of going to the movies or doing the grocery shopping leaves me on edge, constantly scanning for exits, fearing the worst. Having lived in Connecticut in 2012, I've witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of the Sandy Hook tragedy on our community. It's a pain too profound to bear, a memory too close to relive.

Every day, the news is riddled with stories of shootings, of innocent lives lost, of dreams shattered before they have a chance to flourish. This is not the world I want my child to grow up in. This is not the life any of us envisioned. The prevalence of gun violence has led to a society riddled with fear and uncertainty.
