Protect Sandend Bay from Windfarm Infrastructure

Protect Sandend Bay from Windfarm Infrastructure

The Issue

Sandend Beach has been proposed as the favoured landfall site for the cables connecting Moray West Offshore Windfarm to the Electricity Sub-Station at Keith. Our tiny 17th century village is under threat of becoming a construction site and our popular beach ruined in the prosses. The beach is the very essence of the village bringing many visitors from far and wide. Families have been holidaying at Sandend for generations and tourist numbers are on the rise.
When you walk the beach everyone has a story to tell of their love for this special place. The surf is considered one of the best in the country and is unique to our beach. The surf attracts visitors from all over the country and and 3 established surf schools operate here. Should this project go ahead within Sandend Bay there is a real possibility of it changing the wave formation and having a devastating effect on the surf.
There are also concerns for our small 17th century village. Already at risk from rising tides the residents work hard to preserve their homes and the harbour. The many holiday lets within the village will also undoubtedly suffer and our small caravan park where many people return to year after year would also be hit hard.
In the middle of all of this is our beloved beach. A beautiful place unspoiled by time. A place to have fun, relax, and unwind. It is a place that is frequently visited by dolphins and whales. Beach fishing, kite flying, sailing and kayaking. These are just some of the beach activities which will be greatly affected by a project which will take many months, perhaps years to complete. We are desperate to stop this from happening and ask that everyone takes a moment to support this cause.
No amount of research can predict the environmental impact this construction work will have on the bay and we are not prepared to take risks with such an important area of natural beauty.

There are many nearby beaches that have very little use due to their remoteness and as such they would be ideal for this project..

We are very pro renewable energy and this project but ask that it comes ashore elsewhere.

This petition will be forwarded to Moray Offshore Windfarm (West) Ltd and we strongly urge them to take the cables to a more remote location on the coastline which will not have such a devastating impact on our beach, our village, and our community.

Please share and help us to save Sandend Bay.
