Generative Ai has been known to be a modern problem, causing issues such as deceiving the vulnerable, wrongfully replacing art, cheating on assignments, immorally using artificially generated text, sexual exploitation, harm to the environment.

What has finally sparked an argument is the controversial idea of an “AI generated” shirt submitted by a student for an art contest. Another instance could be displaying ai written lessons, or encouraging the students to use generative AI in creativity based classes. Examples of this include the graphic design classes blatantly encouraging the use of AI images, or from personal experiences; AI images being displayed in an educational manner within other classes that could be considered misleading.

Murals used to be hand-painted on walls, art shows displayed beautiful sculptures, paintings, and many more artforms celebrating the creativity of the human mind and for the social presence of our school district. To see this being downplayed by AI generated prompts being used for official school merchandise or even education makes many students who enjoy artistic expression upset.
