As we all know after a year since this petition has been written, generative AI has been known to be an issue for many people, including the talented artists of Mooresville.

Using AI for Mooresville Highschool memorabilia inherently disrespects the artistic integrity of both the students and staff of Mooresville Highschool by depriving them of the resources to hone their skills and represent the school.

AI is also maliciously used for sexual exploitation, by using someone’s face to generate sexual content without consent, and in many cases Child Sexual Assault Material. AI does not make up a new face, it uses photos of people to generate this material.

Murals used to be hand-painted on walls, art shows displayed beautiful sculptures, paintings, and many more artforms celebrating the creativity of the human mind and for the social presence of our school district. To see this being downplayed by AI generated prompts being used for official school merchandise or even education makes many students who utilize artistic expression feel discouraged .

Mooresville is now releasing yet another AI generated T-shirt which proves that they do acknowledge the harm of their actions, but simply don’t care. A data center is actively being built in a neighboring town, Monrovia. As we know, these data centers deprive neighboring communities of water due to the amount needed to cool the servers used to run AI. And when this data center is built, Monrovia will be majorly affected. And by selling an AI tshirt, not only is Wes Upton disregarding the students, he is also encouraging the environmental harm of the land around the data centers being built.
