Why this petition matters

Started by Cheryl Wehr

Moore's Meadow Nature Park is one of the largest glacial moraine kettles in Prince George.   For nearly 50 years, countless numbers of people have come to this park to enjoy walking and exercising their dogs in this off-leash park, to jog, bike ride, sled, cross country ski and snowshoe in season, with photography available all year around.  People who value wildlife find unexpected, breathtaking views of black bear, deer, moose, grouse, great horned owls, foxes and coyotes, which is as unique to the city as the Eskers that run through the park. Visitors coming to the park hale from all over the city, across Canada and world-wide.

Private owners are advertising sale of land for development on the north side of the park's boundaries.  Development will endanger the wildlife and their only passage through to the river and Wilson Park.  Development could claim if not limit access to the north-west end of trail system as part of the residential parcel and also remove trail access to Wilson Park.

Development will altogether alter the environment, the wildlife, the trails and pristine quality of the park.  It will remove from public access the one last easily available pristine escape that we have from city living that gives us access to true wilderness.  It will steal from us one last peaceful oasis that is our escape from the stresses of life.

We, the park users, have an opportunity to work toward protecting the park, working with the city and with developers, and others to preserve what we have today for the future.  Please sign our petition so that we can work toward preserving this park as we look forward to working with the private owners, the developers and city's new Overall Community Plan renewal in 2023.
