Cancel Haven at Princeton Development: Environmental & Residential Impacts

Cancel Haven at Princeton Development: Environmental & Residential Impacts
The Issue
We, the residents of Montgomery Hills, Princeton Village, The Manors, Princeton Walk, and Montgomery Woods communities have received notice indicating there will be a new development of 154 residential units built on River Rd., behind Montgomery Hills. It will be on Lot#7, which is right behind Garfield Way.
Currently, Salisbury Rd ends at Garfield Way, so the only traffic on this road is local. There are children’s parks and tennis courts, which we rely on as safe spots for our kids to play - without through traffic. With the proposed extension, the safety will be lost, as there will be more traffic, including drivers not part of the community, who will use it as a shortcut.
We enjoy the beautiful balance of nature and urban living in Montgomery, and have been proud so far on how our township has maintained this equilibrium.
This proposed development is located between two fragile and protected wetlands; it endangers deer, birds and other fauna (and flora), upsets migratory patterns, feeding habitats and watering habitats, none of which stop at the boundaries of one wetland, but cross back and forth to the other wetland, the two separated by a relatively narrow grassy corridor.
Will the construction and the finished development literally drive species onto River, Blue Spring, and Salisbury Roads?
With concomitant traffic accidents, deaths and injuries? And eventual local extinction?
Will the older, and currently proposed water detention methods, which, we believe, are no longer considered ‘Best Practices’ fail and result in flooding to homes in our communities?
We recognize the need for additional housing and fully support it’s construction so long as it’s appropriate in siting, scale and numbers.
We urge you to voice your concerns about this project due to the impacts it will have on our environment and the safety of our children.
