Hap is a senior police K-9 who is being retired. I was Hap’s original partner, and after I learned his current handler was passing up the opportunity to adopt Hap, I requested to adopt him. Hap knows me and we already have a bond. He deserves to retire to a home of someone who loves him and has worked with him in the past. But so far, my request has been ignored. It breaks my heart when I hear I should just get over it; that Hap is just a tool like an officer’s gun. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hap was not a tool, he was my partner. Like a human partner, he was a constant companion and was a part of my family.   I’ve started this petition because I need your support to make sure my request is heard. Other petitions requesting former handlers be reunited with their K-9 partners have proven successful. I hope with your help, Hap will be able to come home and retire with me.
