Support Student-Run DIY Music in Montclair NJ

The Issue

Give Terry's Serendipity Cafe its meeting space back.

Terry's Serendipity Cafe, a Montclair NJ institution which has been running DIY, student run shows for 20+ years (Montclair Times article)  has lost its meeting space. On August 31st, Serendipity was told it could no longer hold its meetings at the Edgemont Shelter House (i.e. "Boathouse") by Montclair Parks & Rec and that it must move weekly meetings to a series of temporary spaces.

The students and staff of Terry's Serendipity Cafe have included some of the most well known young performers coming out of Montclair since the mid-90's. The "Cafe", which is held monthly at various locations across the town, has been self funding and provides a safe-space for students and youth, gives them a "place of their own", and the organization deserves a perminent meeting space.

We are asking that the Montclair Town Council and Parks & Rec Department re-confirm their support for Terry's Serendipity Cafe and provide an accessible, private and welcoming meeting space for the current and future generations of Serendipity staff.
