Today, Thursday April 22, 2021 the president of Montclair State University declared that the COVID-19 vaccine will be mandatory in order to continue being enrolled at Montclair State University. All students wishing to continue their education at this university in the fall will be required to take the vaccine as well as show documented proof of doing so. Hundreds of students including myself are against mandating this vaccine because it goes against our rights. They are not making it mandatory for the Montclair University Staff to get the vaccinated while students who pay for their education and keep the University a float are not allowed to set foot on camps without a vaccine. Under the First Amendment of the United States we have the right to assemble and petition and that is what we are trying to do. It is well within our rights as American Citizens to refuse the vaccine. We have the fundamental right to make our OWN decisions concerning medical procedures and the university should have no say whether we get an experimental vaccine that is only allowed to be distributed because it has emergency authorization. If this vaccine was not authorized for emergency use due to the pandemic then it would be under clinical trials and test for far longer. Making the vaccine mandatory for students in order to obtain an education that we pay for is absurd. Under current law all physicians and healthcare workers must have the patient's consent to administer medicine and/or vaccination(s) . If someone is not a licensed physician, such as a legislator, employer,  bureaucrat, school administrator or other, they may not administer medicine at all, much less “mandate” medical treatments for the general population or any group. If you agree with what has been stated above please sign this petition and help us give Montclair State University students a voice.
