Email from the district this afternoon:

Dear Monroe School District community,

As many of you are aware, Monroe School District’s Superintendent, Dr. Blasko, has been on paid administrative leave since December 17, 2021 after the school board received concerns from staff and community members about allegations concerning his leadership.

As a result of these allegations, the board hired a third-party investigator to conduct a thorough investigation of Dr. Blasko’s conduct as superintendent. This investigation took many months and the final report was provided to the board in May.

Since then, the school board and Monroe School District’s legal representation have been negotiating with Dr. Blasko and his legal representation to develop an employment separation agreement. The board set expectations and guidelines for the district's attorney to follow in the negotiation process and the board was regularly briefed on the progress of the negotiation.

While many aspects of this work have required confidentiality, the board promised to keep staff, families, and the community informed of the next steps as much as possible along the way.

These negotiations are now complete and Dr. Blasko has signed the agreement, resigning his position as the Monroe School District Superintendent at the close of business on July 31, 2022. The school board will vote on whether or not to formally approve the separation & release agreement; this vote will take place at their next regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, July 18 at 6:00 p.m. The separation & release agreement will be posted in the public meeting agenda on the BoardDocs website on the morning of Friday, July 15. The board will communicate the outcome of their meeting and further information with community members early next week.

The board remains committed to their goal of hiring an interim superintendent to lead the district by late July/early August and is continuing to work with Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to support the recruiting, screening, and selection of an interim superintendent for the 2022-23 school year. As a reminder, the board is seeking community input via survey to learn what community members see as the strengths of the district, challenges to be addressed, and what leadership characteristics/skills are important for the interim superintendent to embody as part of this process. This survey closes tomorrow (7/15/22) at 4:00 p.m. Learn more and take the survey now!

We sincerely thank our community for their involvement in our schools and we look forward to continued partnership in educating the students of Monroe.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Bumpus
