Splash Pad for Big Pine Community Park
Splash Pad for Big Pine Community Park

We, the undersigned residents of Monroe County, are petitioning the Monroe County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the Board of County Commissioners to build an above ground splash pad at the Big Pine Key Community Park.
Local parents struggle with finding nearby activities for their children, particularly during the summer months when the heat index is often well above 100 degrees. The City of Key West has two splash pads, but the travel is not a realistic or logistical option for many parents from Big Pine and nearby Keys.
Splash pads have become extremely popular in parks and recreation spaces in Florida and throughout the country. Adding a splash pad to our spacious, highly frequented park would give families a much-needed safe and fun place to play even during the extremely hot summer months.
A splash pad would provide a free, accessible water recreation for children and families. Splash pads are suitable for children of all ages to use, including infants and toddlers. They also provide children with disabilities with a place to participate in water play and interact with other children. All children will benefit physically, socially, psychologically, and cognitively.
With a splash pad, there is little or no standing water (and thus no lifeguard staffing requirements). The splash pad will also provide opportunities for families in the community to meet and strengthen the community support system for parents and children.
Please sign this petition in support of bringing a splash pad to our community of Big Pine Key and surrounding Keys for our families and visitors to enjoy!
