Monroe County Commissioner Mark Brant Must Resign

The Issue

Mark Brant is a Monroe County Commissioner representing District 2 and also serves as chairman for the board of commissioners. 

On December 15, 2022 he was indicted for distributing THC and Marijuana. 

On March 20, 2024 he plead guilty in the US District Court in the Northern District of Ohio to one count of Maintaining a Drug-Involved Premises. 

On September 11, 2024 he was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison and will be on supervised release for two years after his incarceration. 

Throughout the course of these events Mark Brant has been involved in decision making for Monroe County in regards to marijuana, opioid settlement funds, Mental Health, and has never informed the public of his involvement in these crimes or even that there was an investigation going on. 

According to the MI Constitution Article 11/8- "A person is ineligible for election or appointment to any state or local elective office of this state and ineligible to hold a position in public employment in this state that is policy-making or that has discretionary authority over public assets it, within the immediately preceding 20 years, the person was convicted of a felony involving dishonesty, deceit, fraud, or a breach of the public trust and the conviction was related to the person's official capacity while the person was holding any elective office or position of employment in local, state, or federal government. This requirement is in addition to any other qualification required under this constitution or law.
