In the 6 years that I have been an active member on Facebook I have seen some good things and some very awful things. I'm here to focus on the awful things. I have seen children been beaten, covered in scars, cuts and bruises. I have seen parents emotionally and physically abuse their children. I have seen videos of animals being set on fire, torn in half, beaten to death, bones broken. I have seen animals being tortured for hours. No one wants to see that on a family-friendly website, so the normal thing to do is to report the content. The thing is though, you cannot report content for child abuse or animal abuse. So, I go to the next best thing, report for "graphic violence." but I received a message today from Facebook support stating that these obscene videos "Do not violate our Community Standards." Let's stop for just a second, child abuse is a felony and you can serve up to 5-10 years, animal abuse is also a felony where you can also serve up to 5 years along with a $5,000 fine. I can't get a video of what I think "graphic violence" is, but someone breastfeeding their child will be taken down in the blink of an eye. Children can see this content and think its okay. What if one day you find your own child burning your pet alive and filming it because they think its funny? I started this petition to have Facebook change the Community Standards to keep this kind of trash off of the most used social media site in the world.
