Monetary Compensation for Thomas Raynard James’ 32 year Wrongful Conviction

Monetary Compensation for Thomas Raynard James’ 32 year Wrongful Conviction
Why this petition matters
Thomas Raynard James was accused of a murder and was wrongfully convicted of this crime for 32 years. After three decades of fighting for his life, James was released and completely exonerated on April 27th, 2022 making him an innocent man. Although the state of Florida corrected one of their life altering mistakes, there is something that they failed to realize. Having 32 years of your life stripped away from you, is no small inconvenience. That duration of time is a life time for most. There are endless possibilities of what one can do with their life in that amount of time. The reality of the matter is that, Thomas Raynard James was released into the world after 32 years of being incarcerated for something he did not do with NOTHING. The state of Florida is refusing to grant him any type of monetary compensation for his wrongful conviction because he is a previous convicted felon. The state of Florida is essentially penalizing Thomas for their mistakes. It is almost hypocritical in a sense, how the legal system failed him in this way ultimately making him a victim. He was robbed of valuable time, potential of a starting a family, getting married, owning a business, 32 years of time with his elderly mother, holidays, birthdays, etc... and the perpetrator (the state) found a unique way, through his victimization, a means to minimize, rationalize , and justify James not being entitled to compensation. We are asking that everyone joins us in this pursuit of getting monetary compensation for Thomas Raynard James for serving 32 years for a crime he did not commit. The fight is not over yet!
