END CRUEL RODEOS! National boycott of cities w/ rodeos & their corporate sponsors.
The Issue
HELP ERADICATE SPECIESISM END CRUEL RODEOS AND BULL RIDING.
As of 2009, 27 countries have banned the use of wild animals in circuses due to blatant cruelty. Animals were physically harmed and withheld food in order to get them to perform tricks. The animals were frequently hurt due to accidents that are often unavoidable.
The rest of the world is waking up to the cruelty that we have excused in the name of entertainment but one of the most ignored abusive events is the rodeo/bull riding. The United States is home to around 100 rodeos. This means there are hundreds of thousands of calves, bulls and horses who are physically harmed every single year. They travel up to 24 hours without food or water and can sustain, ''broken ribs, backs, and legs, torn tails, punctured lungs, internal organ damage, ripped tendons, torn ligaments, snapped necks, and agonizing deaths'' according to the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association allows for certain abuse such as electric shocking animals to make them leave the chute. An undercover interview by PETA found that forcing bulls to ingest steroids to make them more aggressive was also a common practice in rodeo and bull riding in the USA.
Sadly, there is very little legislation to prevent the abuse of animals used in rodeos. Organizations such as the American Veterinary Medical Association have failed these individuals as well. According to them, ''Most rodeo events reflect real-life practices on cattle ranches. Cattle often have to be pursued on horseback, roped, and immobilized for such procedures as castration, branding, or vaccination.'' They are excusing violence.
It is up to the people to ensure that this cruel tradition ends NOW!
By signing this petition, you agree to:
- Never attend a rodeo, bull riding event or any event that involves the use of ''livestock'' animals.
- Boycott every city who hosts an above event. This means to not patron any businesses in their city limits under any circumstances until they ban the event from their location. A full list of US cities will be distributed soon via Eradicate Speciesism's Facebook.
- Boycott every corporate sponsor of all rodeo and bull riding events in the USA until they pull their sponsorship from these cruel events.
