NVidia and AMD: Provide GPU drivers to Android x86 to run Android smoothly on our PCs!
The Issue
Android x86 project (http://www.android-x86.org/) is an open source project that aims to help people run Android on their on PCs. There are many people giving their time and effort to support the project since YEARS.
Android x86 bases to many other forks including Remix OS (http://www.jide.com/remixos) and Phoenix OS (http://www.phoenixos.com/en/download_x86) . The OS never failed to impress its millions of users. It changes the way we use our PCs. It acts as a tablet with access to Google Play store, keyboard and mouse. It also gives life back to old PCs with limited specs that don't run Windows or other OSs well as well as developing countries with people who can't buy a separate Android device to connect with the world in addition to their PCs.
The problem is that Android x86 lacks GPU drivers for the most used GPUs which are manufactured by NVidia and AMD. It is because the drivers are closed sourced and can't be integrated in the binaries by the developers. So instead, they use the open source drivers as Nouveau which degrades the performance 4-6 times. They are also not compatible with all of the GPUs.
We, users of Android x86 and its forks, are kindly asking the developers of both NVidia and AMD to work with Android x86 developers to provide a way to install the drivers by end users to their system so that users can benefit from chips they already paid for. There are already Linux drivers available that can be installed to Desktop Linux OSs but not to Android. They will just be ported as Android already uses a Linux kernel.
