The Issue

In Egypt, Animal welfare is non-existent for domesticated and wild animals. Hence the reason for petitioning the President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and all the state Governors.

In Islam, the Qur'an strongly enjoins Muslims to treat animals with compassion and not to abuse them. All creatures are believed to praise God, even if this praise is not expressed in human language. It is forbidden in Islam to treat an animal cruelly and doing so is considered a sin. "Fear Allah in these beasts who cannot speak" (Abu Dawud). Anyone cruel to animals in Islam will have to answer for their sins on Judgement Day.

Egypt has a large number of strays, and the government’s solutions are often brutal and inhumane. Stray Cats and dogs are often shot or poisoned. There are cases of hungry, homeless cats and dogs being fed food mixed with glass. The digestion of this is long and excruciating, and leads to death. Other strays without homes are brutally beaten, drowned, or tied with ropes that cut into their skin. Children find pleasure by drowning little puppies, burying little kittens alive, or banging their head into a wall. They see this cruelty as a game and not animal abuse. Most of the animal cruelty going on in Egypt is the outcome of ignorance. The Government needs to change this by educating Egypt’s youth. Children must be educated on kindness to animals and how important it is.

Egypt has failed to care properly for its animals: malnourished horses and donkeys pull excessively heavy carts; camels are forced to give rides to tourists every day; zoo animals are kept in tiny cages, not being fed for days or treated for illnesses; pigs are murdered in hundreds and farm animals killed one after another and contained in small rooms while they are butchered to death.

It is reported that Law 53 of 1966, also known as The Law of Agriculture, refers in the Animal Health Section, Article 119, to cruelty to animals stating that it is forbidden to exercise cruelty to animals. But there is no recognition in law of animal sentience and there are no statements that refer to pain or suffering.

We must unite.  We must fight for their rights to live & exist. We will not let the animals vanish without being heard. We will not accept any more inhumane treatment to animals. We will not stay quiet anymore. We are their voice. Speak up and make their voices be heard through ours!
